Yuchi Hsiao
Artist
Taipei, Taiwan
A graduate of the Master’s program in New Media Art from the Department of New Media Art at the Taipei National University of the Arts, Yuchi Hsiao specializes in video art, textile art, and installations.
Through her creativity, she explores the relationship between the self and the environment, observes the traces of human life on surfaces, and focuses on unusual moments of everyday life.
In recent years, her work has been signed from the place where she spends most of her time—her room. She often contemplates the relationship between her physical presence and the surrounding environment, with a deep interest in thoughts, behavioral reflections, and how inner behavior manifests both in her artistic work and daily life. Her creations evolve alongside her thoughts.
Her most recent work, Extended Over, uses second-hand fabrics as its main material and is designed as a site-specific installation. In 2023, she participated in an artist residency at Hangar.org in Barcelona, where she presented a new artistic concept in Paratext Nº 72, titled Imagination Outside the Window. This project consisted of an interactive performance exploring the relationship between body movements, light, and shadow. She later refined this concept for her solo exhibition In This Moment – Yuchi Hsiao Solo Exhibition at the Hong-Gah Museum in Taipei (2024).
She will also participate in the 10th edition of the Nakanojo Biennale in Japan (2025) and has been selected for the 2025 Pier-2 Residency Program.
Additionally, her videographic works have been exhibited internationally in France, Bulgaria, and Macao.
