ANDRÉS DENEGRI (arg) – Artist and curator
Denegri is a visual artist who works mostly in film, video, installations, and photography. His projects promote dialogues between the different audiovisual formats and rethink the classic uses of their technologies. His work has been exhibited internationally in spaces dedicated to the visual arts as well as in others specialising in the audiovisual arts.
Among the recognitions he has received for his work are the Grand Prize of the National Visual Arts Hall (Buenos Aires, 2015), the First Prize of the Itaú Cultural Prize for Visual Arts (Buenos Aires, 2013), the Golden Medal for the best experimental film at the Belgrade Documentary Film Festival (Belgrade, 2012), the First Prize at the Alternative Film / Video Festival (Belgrade, 2009), the Grand Prize at the MAMBA / Fundación Telefónica Art and New Technologies Contest (Buenos Aires, 2009), the Best Short Film Award at the Mar del Plata Film Festival (Mar del Plata, 2008), the Juan Downey Award at the Santiago Video and New Media Biennial (Santiago de Chile, 2007), Best Video Art of the Year by the Awards of the Argentine Association of Art Critics (Buenos Aires, 2006), the Golden Impakt Award (Utrecht, 2005), the 25fps Award (Zagreb, 2005) and the Leonardo award – video category (Buenos Aires 2002). Among his latest individual exhibitions, there are Cinema de Exposición (OSDE Foundation, October 2013 – January 2014), Al Interior (Matucana 100, Santiago de Chile, October – December 2013), Aurora (Museum of Fine Arts of Salta, May – June 2014 ), Clamor (Recoleta Cultural Center, August – September 2015), Éramos Esperados (1st Asunción Biennial of Paraguay, October 2015) and Instante Bony (MACBA, December 2015 – March 2016), Mechanisms of Oblivion (ENERC May – June 2018) , Protocol rules in the treatment of the flag (Pavilion 4, July – August 2018), (Altered Screens (Universidad Di Tella, September – October 2018).
Denegri is a graduate of the Universidad del Cine. He is a professor at the National University of Tres de Febrero, where he created and co-directs CONTINENTE, a research and production center dedicated to the support and promotion of audiovisual arts. He is also director of the Biennial of the Moving Image and film and video curator for the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires.
He has participated in artist residencies in Colombia, Serbia, Canada and the USA.
Lives and works in the city of Buenos Aires.
