Kickflip

“Kickflip” collects the testimonies of a group of friends whose adolescence, in the mid-2000s, passed around the skatepark of Tudela, a small city in Navarra.

Reviewing our adolescence on the ground is a way of reviewing and leaving testimony about our personal history, although it is a broader exercise of reviewing patterns and stereotypes that, today, are still reproduced among middle-class adolescents located in small provincial towns.

Evoking an act of recovery of shared memory, the viewer uses the stick to explore the Tudela skatepark, and thus discover different narrative threads. These threads are made up of photographs, found documents and voice recordings. In each episode, a person related to this group of friends recounts their own experiences, offering new perspectives on topics related to adolescence such as school failure, the discovery of one’s own sexuality and identity, or the exploration of different musical subcultures.
