Maia Gattás Vargas is a visual and audiovisual artist, researcher, and professor.

She holds a PhD in Arts from the National University of La Plata (UNLP). She works as a postdoctoral fellow at the CITECDE-CONICET Institute in Bariloche.

She premiered her first feature-length documentary, Viento del Este, at the Doc Buenos Aires Festival (2023), which won Best Film at the Festifreak Festival (La Plata) and the Córdoba Film Festival. Its international premiere was at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, Czech Republic, where it won the Original Approach Award.

She is currently participating in the Research Residency, Atmospheric Inquiries, at Medialab Matadero, Madrid.
