Paisaje en desarrollo

Painting intervention on a television screen. The video shows 10 still shots of streets and highways in the peripheral area of the city of Quito, capital of Ecuador. Each of these moving landscapes are intervened with paint to recreate from memory the green spaces that were destroyed in favor of urban development. This work was produced in the year 2021, in an area of the city of Quito that has been rapidly transformed by road, urban and economic development, and where family farming and ranching activities were displaced. The land that was once used for grazing, small agriculture and even informal housing is rapidly disappearing to make way for asphalt and unaffordable condominiums for the majority of the population. The rapid growth of the urban area is a problem in many countries due to its environmental and social impact.
