One of his first cinematographic experiments at the Łódź School, SOUP is an exercise in synchronising image and sound, where a series of objects and liquids combine in a rhythmic montage game. Influenced by the tradition of Polish experimental cinema, the piece reveals its early obsession with time and repetition.
Filmmaker Peter Tscherkassky says that ‘in works like “SOUP”, Rybczyński was already making it clear that cinema could become a visual score.’
